Who we are

The Kidshare Foundation is a notarised Dutch foundation based in Haarlem since 29 December 2009.

With Kidshare Germany e. V. we have expanded our sphere of activity since June 2024 with the founding of our non-profit organisation.

Working together for better prospects for children in Africa

About us

The importance of early childhood education and care

In addition to the social responsibility, there is also a great economic responsibility to prioritise early childhood education on the agenda, especially in Africa. The effects are far-reaching: better educational opportunities lead to a more qualified and productive labour force, which ultimately benefits the entire economic system.

Focus on the future

Invest in early childhood education and care - for the well-being of every child and the prosperity of society. Because as Nelson Mandela said: "Education is the most powerful weapon you can use to change the world.

The foundation

Kidshare Foundation is a foundation established on December 29, 2009. The foundation is recognized by the Dutch Tax Authorities as a Public Benefit Organization (Algemeen Nut Beogende Instelling, ANBI) and has tax number: 821743417. Download here the latest ANBI form. Kidshare Foundation is registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce under number 34372407. The foundation is certified as a recognized charity by the CBF (Centraal Bureau Fondsenwerving).

The Kidshare Foundation is committed to improving the living conditions of the poorest children in East Africa. Especially in regions like Tanzania, Uganda and Kenya many children face enormous challenges: Poverty, inadequate healthcare and lack of access to education. Our mission is to give these children a Future through education because every child has the right to a better future. Our vision: opportunities for every child

The Kidshare Foundation pursues the goal of Access to education for children in Africa and thus create a basis for them to lead a self-determined life. We concentrate on Early childhood education and the expansion of Primary schools. Education is the key to a better future - for children and the entire community.

Early childhood education and care: the key to sustainable economic growth and prosperity

Investing in early childhood education and care is the most efficient way to achieve economic growth and offers the highest returns". This is the claim of none other than Nobel Prize winner and American professor James Heckman. His research has shown that investments in children are also investments in the future. Early childhood education therefore not only contributes to individual development, but also promotes the prosperity of an entire country.

Together we are strong

Without a strong connection to the people on the ground, our work would not be sustainable and would not bring about lasting change in the regions. We are convinced that change can only be brought about through the local commitment of communities and local people. That is why we work closely with local communities, policy makers, parents and children. Local people contribute to the construction and financing of the projects and thus feel closely connected to them from the outset. In addition, through local involvement we also achieve the participation of the national government, e.g. by covering the labour costs for the teaching staff.

This network is strengthened by our local partner organisations, with whom we have been working together in a spirit of trust for many years. Without this network, the resounding successes would not have been possible. Would you like to find out more about our network? You can find out all about it here:

Our network for success

Kidshare has a network of donors at home and abroad who support our projects financially. Direct contact and personal dialogue are important to us. Because together we can achieve more. Whether private donors, companies, churches, foundations or wealth funds, we involve those affected in our work and make success tangible for everyone. Major donors can, for example, visit the early intervention centre they support and see with their own eyes what their donation achieves. They get to meet the children, talk to the parents and meet the people in charge on site. Become part of this network and let yourself be infected by the enthusiasm and joy of having done something really worthwhile.

Ambitious goals

We have set ourselves ambitious goals. In our 2026 strategic plan, we have agreed to build a total of 40 kindergartens in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda, set up 15 additional primary schools in Kenya and support a total of 100 girls through the Top Girls programme. You can find more information in our full Strategic Plan 2026.

More professional organisation

In short, we are raising the bar again at this time. This means that we also need to professionalise and strengthen our organisation. The Kidshare Foundation currently consists of a board of five people who fulfil all tasks. We want to move to a structure in which the board has a stronger supervisory role and the political and executive tasks are in the hands of the management and the operational organisation. In addition, we have decided to establish a German branch, Kidshare Deutschland e.V., to make our organisation more visible in Germany.
In this new structure, we will appoint a (part-time) Operations Manager and a Country Coordinator for each country in which Kidshare is active. In addition, we recognise the need for a board member with responsibility for marketing and communications. If we want to increase our impact in the coming years, we need to attract new donors and get existing donors more involved in our projects. To achieve this, we need to raise our marketing and communication efforts to a higher level. At the same time, we want to set up a fundraising plan by 2022.

Careful selection of partners

Another important prerequisite for the success of our work is cooperation with local partners. When selecting our cooperation partners, we attach great importance to ensuring that the organisations have both feet firmly planted in the community. We also use our Partner Assessment Tool to ensure that our standards, norms and values are also represented by our partners. Would you like to find out more about our partner organisations?
